 Sub: Request for reconsideration of step taken to suspend fare concession to senior citizens in train journeys – regarding

This Association submits the following issue to the immediate attention of the Government for restoration of a vital concession given so far to the senior citizens during the train journey. The Government of India had taken the decision to suspend the train fare concession granted to senior citizen passengers during train journey as a measure to discourage the senior people from undertaking journey during COVID-19 time. We feel that the step taken is harsh as the senior citizens undertake train journeys only under extreme necessities and not on a day to day basis. They used to stay home especially at the pandemic time and just because there is a facility for fare concession available in trains, they do not venture out. Therefore we request the Government of India and the Department of Railways to reconsider their stand to suspend train fare concession to senior citizens and restore the concessions immediately.
